Business Profile Video Verification: Get It Right Once
More and more Business Profiles are asked to verify with a short video instead of a postcard or a phone code. The request makes many owners nervous, and a rushed first attempt often ends in a rejection and a week of waiting. The video is not difficult. It needs a little planning, because Google is checking three specific things.
What Google is checking
The reviewer wants to see that your business is real, that it is at the place your profile says, and that the person recording actually runs it. Google's guidance groups this as location, existence and management. A good video shows all three clearly, in that order, in one continuous take.
The recording rules that cause most rejections
- Record live, inside the Business Profile on your phone. A clip recorded earlier and uploaded later is not accepted.
- Keep it continuous and unedited: no cuts, no trimming, no added text. If you stumble, stop and record a fresh take.
- Make it at least 30 seconds long. A calm one to two minutes is usually plenty to show everything.
- Keep other people's faces and private documents out of frame.
Plan the route before you press record
Walk the route once without recording. Start outside, a short distance from your door, where something identifies the location: a street sign, a landmark, the neighbouring shops. Then turn to your own entrance and hold the camera on your signboard. Walk in, show the space working as a business, and finish with one action only a manager or employee could do.
Speak if it helps you stay calm, but the reviewer relies on what the camera shows. Move slowly. A shaky, fast pan is the commonest reason a signboard or street name cannot be read.
The sign has to match your profile name
Google expects the business name on a permanent fixture, such as a signboard, a painted wall or a window, and it should match the name on your profile. A printed sheet taped to the glass or a temporary banner is a frequent cause of rejection. If your board says "Sharma Travels" and the profile says "Sharma Tours and Travels Pvt Ltd", fix one of them before recording, not after.
Proving you manage the business
This is the part most owners forget. Show something an outsider could not do: unlocking the main door or shutter, opening the cash drawer, logging into your billing or point-of-sale system, or entering a staff-only room. A business document with the same name, such as a registration certificate or a utility bill, can help, but cover account numbers and personal ID details.
If you have no shopfront
Service-area businesses, such as home repair, tutors who travel to students, or mobile mechanics, verify a little differently. Show identifiers near the business address, then the tools of the trade: equipment, branded vehicles, uniforms or business cards. Unlocking a branded van or setting out your equipment works well as the management step. If customers never visit your address, keep it hidden on the profile, as covered earlier in the piece on service-area profiles.
Shared desks and virtual offices are a common problem. If your address is a co-working space with no permanent sign of your own, expect verification to be difficult, and consider whether a service-area profile is the honest fit.
After you upload
Google says the review can take up to five business days. Do not edit the business name, address or category while you wait, because changes can restart or complicate the check. If the video is rejected, read the reason, fix that specific point and record a complete new take.
FAQ
Can someone else record the video for us?
Yes, an employee can record it, as long as it is done live through the profile and shows the same location, signage and management proof.
Do we need to say anything during the video?
No. Narration is optional. Clear, steady footage of the street, the sign and the management step matters far more.
What if our signboard is only in Hindi?
The name on the sign should match the name on the profile. If the profile uses the English name, make sure that name also appears on a permanent sign, or align the profile with the name your customers actually see.
